Authentic Mediterranean food and hospitality at Troy Café in Shoreditch
I’m a big fan of Mediterranean food so when I discovered Troy Café on Kingsland Road, I was one happy lady. The food is authentic and totally delicious. The lunchtime and evening buffet – where you can eat in for just £5.50 or takeaway for £4.50 – has a huge range of dishes on offer. The halloumi and roast vegetables are excellent, and their traditional Turkish kebabs would definitely change some peoples’ mind about kebabs!
The welcome you get couldn’t be friendlier, usually ‘my friend’ or ‘darling’ even if it’s your first time. Being in the heart of London’s East End, you’re always guaranteed to come accross some great characters. Apor, the owner, was once a national wrestler in Turkey so an interesting collection of wrestling photos adorn the walls, and the glass doors slide open onto a lovely suntrap if you fancy dining al fresco. If you go for the takeaway option, the lawn of the Geffrye Museum about thirty yards away is also a lovely spot to enjoy your food.
